Woman on bench

Hello and thank you for reading anything wot I wrote. This blog is about writing and life and anything else that takes my interest. But it’s really just about the words…

I guess I began writing seriously in 2011 and not long after the birth of my one and only daughter. Motherhood has a way of reshaping the bones. I began with my first, and probably soon to be defunct site, Older Mum, a supportive resource for mothers over 35, and which showcased positive stories from women who chose to birth and raise children later in life. Older Mum received a lot of media attention and I gave a number of radio interviews on local and national stations.

Then came Older Mum in a Muddle, a parenting and lifestyle blog which was nominated for a number of national blogging awards, and winner of the Writing category at the Britmums Brilliance in Blogging Awards in 2014. The same year I was also chosen to be mentored on the excellent Womentoring Writing Project.

Older Mum in a Muddle took my writing in a much more creative and poetic direction – it wasn’t just stories from the coalface of parenting, it was about flash fiction and personal memoir too. It was during this time I began penning my first novel and realised I needed a dedicated blog for my writing process, and so here I am…

After a divorce a few years ago I had to reprioritise my life and alas writing had to take a back seat for lots of practical reasons. I now simply write and post when I can.

I’m a West Yorkshire lass originally now living in the Hertfordshire burbs with my gorgeous girl and a grumpy, ginger cat. I was once a house and techno DJ, playing at clubs and raves all over the UK and Europe during the 90’s. It was whole lot of fun and when I think about it, I was always telling a story in the sets I spun. I’m now a therapist, prolific chamomile tea drinker and lover of nature, books and custard – it really doesn’t get more middle-aged than that!
